These jewels bloom once a year. Each flower lasts about two days and then it's over until the following Spring.
A Western Fence Lizard warms up in a sunny spot. He's one of many who dwell in the garden. From a favorite perch they scan the ground for insects, scamper down to snatch them up and then return to their lookout until the next unsuspecting bug crawls into range. It's like watching the reptilian counterpart of a Black Phoebe or other Flycatcher, birds who dip into the air to capture insects and return repeatedly to the same perch.
