For a few days this week a juvenile Cooper's Hawk has been perching in the back yard while an adult bird - either a Cooper's or Sharp-shinned Hawk - sits high in an oak tree next door. They call back and forth to each other.
A juvenile Scaly-breasted Munia is part of a small flock in the yard. Native to southern Asia, escapees from captivity have established wild populations in coastal California.
